Early Years Foundation Stage
Our nursery and preschool follow the Government based framework for early learning called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS is split into four themes: A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning and Development. These four themes are the key principles that underpin effective practice in the care, development and learning of young children.
A Unique Child: Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
Enabling Environments: Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers.
Learning and Development: Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Practitioners teach children by ensuring challenging, playful opportunities across the prime and specific areas of learning and development.
Learning and development is made up of 3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas:
3 Prime:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
4 Specific:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive arts and design
All areas of Learning and development are connected to one another and are equally important.
Our Ofsted report said 'Experiences are based on each child's existing abilities and interests and practitioners provide meaningful experiences to help them reach their full potential. The excellent range of opportunities covers all areas of learning and provides wide choice and variety...The exciting range of experiences available helps all children to develop the essential skills necessary for their future learning and development.'
